Recently I have started seeing algae growing on the dead sprouts. It is the perfect environment for algae to grow. It is very humid, warm, and gets a lot of sunlight. I think it is really interesting how there is starting to be more growth inside the bottle when I thought everything in the bottle was dead.
Another pad has started to grow on the cactus within the past day or two. I am interested to see if any more flowers will grow on the new pads that have been growing in the last week.

Cactus Growth
These two smaller pads in front started to barely grow right when my other plant had died. so in about a week and a half there has been a huge change in this plant. Its coincidental that once one plant stops growing, the other plant starts.
All of the dead sprouts are falling toward the edge of the bottle and sticking to the side of it. It looks sort of like a spider web when I look through the top of the bottle.

Back to the other plant
I didn't throw out the other plant because I wanted to see what would happen to it. There were still two flowers on it that were doing well. I hadn't been watering it and they seemed to be blooming.
Now the flowers had fallen off. I hadn't touched the pot at all that would have caused them to fall off, but they just did naturally. It looks like a couple more pads starting to grow on the cactus.

Pretty Much Dead
About a week ago this is what the plant looked like. It was starting to die. I don't think it needs more water because it still looks humid inside the bottle. It is getting sunlight everyday and I am not sure if it is getting too much or not.
This is what it looks like now. I think it is completely dead. I just think that this is the sort of plant that isn't supposed to live very long. I think they are supposed to be grown, picked, and eaten.

Growing Like Crazy
After about 65 hours since the last post, the sprouts are continuing to grow rapidly and are about an inch tall now. Its amazing to me how quickly the cells in these sprouts are reproducing. I could leave it for half an hour and come back and probably find some difference in a couple sprouts. The soil looks moist and I have only watered it once since I started it. Since it is somewhat enclosed it the bottle, it says very humid in the bottle-- I can see the condensation on the walls of the bottle. So far, this project has been a big success with lots to observe.

Many Roots
After just 24 hours of hardly any roots and no sprouts, there are many roots and a couple sprouts. I find it fascinating how something starting off so simple can change so much in a such a short amount of time. I am assuming that in 24 hours that there will be many more sprouts.

A New Experiment
That last terrarium failed. Almost all of the flowers fell off. So I decided to start a completely different new terrarium.
I put a mixture of Organic Quinoa, Amaranth, and Millet into some soil in a glass bottle and put some water in with it.
After only one day the seeds look like they are hollowing out a little bit and I can see some tiny roots coming off of some of them. It gets so humid in the bottle that I can see the condensation on the side of the bottle; I think that it is a very good environment for the seeds to grow in. I expect that they will start to sprout up within the next couple days.
